In January JJ Grey & Mofro premiered the lead single "Every Minute" off their 2015 album Ol' Glory via elite Southern culture outlet Garden & Gun. Grey told Garden & Gun he was inspired to write that song while on vacation. "I was eating my favorite breakfast—ackee and salt fish—and was real warm but the sea breeze had just started out of the east. There was music playing somewhere in the distance and all at once I realized that I was the luckiest person alive (no matter how many times I might have tried to convince myself otherwise). Then I started humming this tune." Now on his ninth album Florida natives JJ Grey & Mofro's music is just as diverse as their home state. On the new album they pull influences, with a soulful base the band blends blues, funk, rock, folk, and gospel with Southern narratives tying the guitar and horn jams together. As shown by their 2011 live album Brighter Days, the band hits on all cylinders live, showing off with a band of veteran musicians who've been jamming for crowds since the early 2000's, though those were sometimes small clubs and not venues the size of Music Farm. Watch the album trailer for an even better feel of JJ Grey & Mofro.
